Well, I had a Kerry/Edwards buddy icon on IM for the last half year. But that doesn't do me much good now, so I've updated it to get with the times.
I want the next election to be the one in which the Democrats finally take off the gloves and realize that what it takes to win is not sound policies and responsibility. People who think in those terms are Democrats anyway; they need no convincing. The battles in modern politics are for the votes of the clueless, and they are won through character assasination. We need to roll up our sleeves and dive into that fray. We've tried rising above it--it does not work.
We had the perfect target for that this time, but we took the high road... a decision I agreed with at the time, but in retrospect it was all wrong. We let them win the character assassination war--while we were talking about policy issues, their quasi-retarded AWOL inside-trading drunkard was painting our selfless war hero as a man of poor character. And on too many people it worked.
People are naturally skeptical of everything good a politician says about himself; they are less skeptical of everything bad he says about his opponent. Negative ideas have more staying power in most minds than positive ones--sad but true. In '08, we need to remember that. We need to be ready to play so dirty that we can make a McCain/Jesus ticket look like a vote against baseball and apple pie.
I'm not really endorsing a Moore/Carville ticket for '08. But I want to see a campaign in 4 years that makes Fahrenheit 9/11 look like A Charge to Keep.
